I have had A Good Idea.

I am going out to buy a Halloween pumpkin now, and when I have scooped out the innards and carved out a design, I will not only toast the seeds under the grill but also use the offcuts from the design to make a risotto.

See, it's a decorative object that's also tasty!

Mmmmmmmm.

UPDATE: This is one of those moments where I regret not having a digital camera. At the supermarket, I found CONJOINED TWIN PUMPKINS. (Looks kind of like an orange butt.) This is going to be the AWESOMEST HALLOWEEN EVER.

Hey, Mattie! Good to see you! I am glad you share my joy at the glorious pumpkin deformity that is The Orange Butt.

Please tell me you goatsed the pumpkins.

Also, pumpkin risotto -- YUM!

No, but damn, I totally should've. I just made them into little fanged faces gazing at each other.

The risotto is, indeed, yummy!

I have two pumpkins. I don't know what to do with them. I'm so intimidated by them-- scooping out the insides and stuff.

Yours sounds awesome!

Ah, the scooping. It's very primal-- you have to be in the kind of mood where you don't mind getting slimy up to the elbows.

If they're still intact after Halloween, we can discuss recipe ideas on Thursday!

I got your text too late! Sorry. I would have liked to see you. My phone needs a new battery.

We are leaving for Scotland tomorrow. But I'll be back on 15th-- maybe we can meet up then!

I miss you.

Good for you! I always feel daunted by the post-Jack-o-Lantern harvest. There's just so much of it!

Don't they carve turnips in the UK? Perhaps this is just a quaint and misguided idea of mine...

Traditionally, yeah, they'd carve out turnips or mangolds-- squash were more of a New World thing. British supermarkets, however, are full of pumpkins these days.
