The story so far...
Aug. 6th, 2006 04:44 pmLast weekend: a lovely trip to Cornwall in the company of
velvetdahlia to see
pvcdiva and
psychonomy. Good company, good food and good times generally had by all. Pvcdiva's Dad showed me how to put together a satellite dish, and I was able to assist the Diva herself by putting eyelets into some corsets (they're gorgeous of course-- roll on DragonCon!)
Then this week I went up to Stratford with Jordan to see the three parts of Henry VI and The Tempest. I saw the Henrys in 2001 when the RSC first did this production, and it blew my mind; the fact that they've revived it when they normally never revive anything speaks volumes about its quality. It's still excellent the second time round, even if the guy playing the future Richard III does look disturbingly like my friend Toby. I'd seriously recommend the trilogy to anyone in need of a little blood, death, swordplay and shouting to liven up their day.
The Tempest was kind of an afterthought: we'd got to Stratford early enough the day before the Henrys that we could see what was on that evening, and we both fancied seeing Shakespeare's last play the day before we saw some of his earliest ones. It was only when we got to the box office that we realised Patrick Stewart was playing Prospero! Luckily there were two seats left up in the balcony. The production pretty much bereft me of all words except the desire to shout YEAH! YEAHHH! FUCK YEAH! a lot. Really well played and well spoken by all the actors, Stewart not least.
So now I'm back in London, and gearing up for my next column, which will be on Places To Find Good Advice on the Internet. Meanwhile, here are links to a couple of the latest ones up at blueyonder:
Ways the internet can help you beat the heat, and
Ways the internet can help you become someone else.
Also, I've booked my autumn trip back to DC: I leave on August 28th and get back September 14th. Party's on my side of the pond, guys:
pvcdiva and
orkamedies indahouse. Special Agent
speedlime, prepare for landing!
